CfA Resources on Canvas

Hi all, you probably heard that you will not be able to stream videos from the Kepler network. Yes, this is close to the truth.

Kepler is cutting internet used on videos to help maintain good working internet during class time, and when it is needed most. Therefore, all the academic videos (CfA and Kepler courses) are stored on our local area network so that you can watch them without using internet.

The video above shows how you can access the CfA videos from the Canvas courses that you were invited to (Cohorts 2013 and 2014). If you are on campus, use those Canvas courses to watch the CfA videos.

Can I still use the Canvas courses to watch videos outside the campus?

YES. If you want to use the Canvas course outside of campus, you can still watch them. However, it will be like normal streaming over internet.

What is the difference between watching the videos on campus network and outside campus?

If you are connected to the Kepler network, you will watch the videos directly from the Kepler server. So, you will not be using internet. If you are at your house for example, you will be streaming same as you can stream from CfA resources, because you will not be connected to the Kepler server.

How do I cite my work?

Since the video links from CfA opens, you will still get all the information you need to cite the videos.

What if I choose to Stream the Videos from the CfA provided resources on Kepler internet?

The Kepler network will give you very limited data, at a point where a video can take hours to stream.

What about videos used in Kepler Courses?

The videos used in Kepler courses will be uploaded to Canvas as usual. However, they will be uploaded from the LAN. (this concerns teachers, so as students you will be opening links from Canvas as usual)
